Save South Edinburgh's Greenbelt

The Local Development Plan 2015-2020 has proposed a number of sites on the south side of the City for development.

These sites will encroach and build on the greenbelt.  Local residents want these sites at Broomhills, Old Station Road, Burdiehouse, The Drum, Ellens Glen, and Moredun to be exempt from the new plan.

Sign the petition to say to the Planning Minister at the Scottish Government that we want these sites removed from the LDP2 and given equal treatment as per the "call-in" for the Cammo site in West Edinburgh.

Local residents, community groups and the local community councils are concerned at the impact on local amenities if these plans are approved.  There are significant concerns on the precedent for any further development on the greenbelt, the pressure on local GP services, the significant increase at already chocked traffic junctions, and the lack of primary and high school places in the area.

We saw with the development at the "Lime Kilns" in Burdiehouse during the last Local Development Plan that the wishes of the local community and, in this case, the Council were ignored.  The developer won the right to build on this site on appeal to Scottish Ministers in complete opposition to all local views and the democratic process.

We call on the plan to be scrapped, these sites removed and a proper process put in place to determine the future development of the City that works in conjunction with local communities and not against them.

You may also wish to keep an eye on the Community Council website with regards to this issue.  They are Gilmerton and Inch CC ( and Liberton & District Community Council (  The officers and members of both have been superb on this issue.
